The friendly relations and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) kept a sound momentum of growth in the year 2010.
The two countries had close political contacts. In January, Wang Jiarui, Minister of the International Department of CPC Central Committee, led a CPC delegation to the DRC, during which he met with Joseph Kabila, DRC President, and had talks with Evariste Boshab, Secretary General of the ruling People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy and Speaker of the Congolese National Assembly. In June, Jiang Weixin, special envoy of President Hu Jintao and Minister of Housing and Urban and Rural Development led a delegation to the DRC for celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the country's independence, and met with President Kabila. In July, State Councilor Dai Bingguo visited the DRC, during which he met with President Kabila and had talks with Prime Minister Adolphe Muzito.
In April and August, President Kabila sent letters of consolation to President Hu Jintao in the aftermath of the earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai and the massive mudslide in Zhouqu, Gansu . In July, President Hu Jintao expressed sympathy to President Kabila over an oil tanker truck explosion in Sange, a border city in eastern DRC.
Economic cooperation and trade continued to grow. China offered zero-tariff treatment to a wider range of DRC exports to China. In July, DRC Finance Minister Matata Ponyo Mapon and Minister of Infrastructure, Public Projects and Reconstruction Fridolin Kasweshi Musoka attended a trade promotion seminar in China hosted by the Ministry of Commerce. In August, DRC Deputy Prime Minister Simon Bulupiy Galati visited China and attended the China-Africa Agriculture Cooperation Forum and met with Wang Jiarui, Minister of the International Department of CPC Central Committee. In September, DRC Minister of International and Regional Cooperation Raymond Tashibanda Mulongo visited China and attended the 14th China International Fair for Investment and Trade and the World Investment Forum 2010. During the visit, he met with China's Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun and Vice Minister of Commerce Chong Quan.
The two countries carried out fruitful communication and cooperation in other areas. In March, General Ma Xiaotian, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the PLA, led a delegation to visit the DRC and met with President Kabila, Minister of National Defense and Former Combatants Charles Mwando Nsimba and Chief of the General Staff of the DRC Army Didier Etumba. In May, the 14th Chinese medical team left for the DRC for medical assistance and cooperation. In June, Bernard Biando Sango, DRC Minister of Commerce and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, led a delegation to China and attended the DRC National Pavilion Day activities during the Shanghai World Expo.
