Brunei officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace is a sovereign state located on the north coast of the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea, it is completely surrounded by the state of Sarawak, Malaysia, and it is separated into two parts by the Sarawak district of Limbang. In 2010, relations between the People's Republic of China and Brunei Darussalam maintained sound and steady growth. Friendly exchanges and cooperation in various fields made continuous progress.


The two countries maintained close high-level contacts. In January, State Councillor Dai Bingguo visited Brunei. In August, Minister of the General Administration of Sport Liu Peng visited Brunei. In May, the Brunei Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Prince Mohamed Bolkiah attended the Brunei National Pavilion Day at the Shanghai World Expo. In October, Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Yahya attended the 7th China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, China. In November, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council Prince Sufri Bolkiah attended the opening ceremony of the Guangzhou Asian Games. In December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Two Lim Jock Seng paid a working visit to China.


Economic cooperation and trade further expanded. Trade in crude oil grew substantially. Cooperation in agriculture and fishery made progress. The Yulin City of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Brunei carried out a joint research and development program on the planting of hybrid rice. In August, China-Brunei Darussalam International Cooperation Forum was held in Yinchuan, China. The two sides were committed to cooperation in halfal food products.


Exchanges and cooperation in culture, education and tourism continued to broaden. The Radio Television Brunei came to China to shoot a documentary on the millennium-old China-Brunei friendship, which records the visit to China by King of Puni and China's Islamic culture. Universiti Brunei Darussalam established collegiate cooperation with China's University of Petroleum and Yunnan University on energy and biodiversity respectively. In March, Royal Brunei Airlines resumed flights between Bandar Seri Begawan and Shanghai . In June, Brunei Department of Tourism Development came to Shanghai , Hangzhou and Ningbo for tourism promotion.
