Georgia, is a sovereign state in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. The capital of Georgia is Tbilisi. Georgia covers a territory of 69,700 km², and its population is almost 4.7 million. In 2010, the friendly and cooperative relationship between the People's Republic of China and Georgia developed steadily. Exchanges and cooperation in various fields further deepened.
The political relations between China and Georgia grew steadily. From 26 to 30 October, Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri attended the National Pavilion Day activities at the Shanghai World Expo in China and visited Beijing . Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang met with him and the two sides reached important consensus on deepening practical cooperation in the economic, trade and other fields. From 17 to 22 March, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Akaki Minashvili led a delegation to China. He met with NPC Vice Chairman Chen Changzhi and Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the NPC Ma Wenpu and held talks with Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee Chen Fengxiang. On 30 June, a director-general-level consultation between the Chinese and Georgian foreign ministries took place in Beijing .
The two countries maintained good communication and coordination at the United Nations and other international organizations. Georgia is committed to the one China policy and supports China on major questions such as Taiwan and Tibet.
The two sides carried out fruitful economic cooperation and trade. On 4 June, Vice Commerce Minister Fu Ziying visited Georgia. Prime Minister Gilauri met with him. The two sides signed the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Chinese and Georgian governments. Chinese companies made new progress in railway, roads and other infrastructure development and major projects like the industrial park in Georgia. From 13 to 15 December, the fourth session of the China-Georgia Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade was convened in Beijing .
The two countries carried out dynamic exchanges in the cultural field. On 26 November, the first Confucius Institute in the Free University of Tbilisi was inaugurated. A Chinese art exhibition was held in Georgia and a Georgian version of Liao Zhai (A Collection of Fables and Fairy Tales from ancient China) and some other books were jointly published by the two sides, all of which were warmly received. The Georgian people set up a Georgia-China friendship association. There has been greater enthusiasm among the Georgian people to study the Chinese culture and learn the Chinese language.
