In 2010, the relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan maintained sound momentum of growth. The friendly cooperation between the two countries in various fields kept deepening.
The two countries conducted frequent exchanges at all levels. In November, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission General Xu Caihou visited Jordan. He met with King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein and Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Samir Al-Rifai and had talks with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Jordan Lieutenant General Meshal Al Zaben. In January, Member of the National Committee of CPPCC and Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Liu Guchang led a CPPCC Foreign Affairs Committee delegation to Jordan. In October, China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Wu Sike visited Jordan and had an in-depth exchange of views with Jordanian Foreign Minister Naser Joudeh on the latest developments in Palestine-Israel peace talks.
In April, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Nabil Sharif visited China. He met with Liu Yunshan, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Member of the Secretariat and Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. In May, Foreign Minister Naser Joudeh attended the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum in Tianjin , China and had a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Beijing . In September, former Prime Minister of Jordan Nabar Al-Dahabi visited China and met with CPPCC Vice Chairwoman Zhang Meiying.
In April and July, King Abdullah II and Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Samir Al-Rifai sent letters of condolences to President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao respectively on the earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai Province and the powerful storms and floodings in some areas in south China.
The two countries advanced their cooperation in the economic, trade and other fields steadily. Affected by the international financial crisis, the bilateral trade experienced negative growth, but it steadily recovered in the second half of the year. In September, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jafaar Hassan, Minister of Public Sector Reform and State Minister for Mega Projects Imad Fakhouri visited China and attended the first China-Arab Economic and Trade Forum in Ningxia , China. In November, the seventh China Fair was held in Jordan, which was participated by over 350 outstanding Chinese companies. New progress was made in China's assistance to Jordan and labor contract cooperation between the two countries.
Among the projects built with Chinese assistance, the Baqa'a Hospital went into operation, the Amman Public Safety Command Center was handed over to Jordan, and the projects of water supply network upgrading and expansion, housing for low-income families and military officers were well underway as scheduled.
The two sides continued to carry out cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges. In March, President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Chen Haosu led a delegation to Jordan. In the same month, China's Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe staged performances in Jordan. In August, the Shaolin Temple martial arts performance group attended the second Jordan Arts Festival. In December, the Association of Chinese Writers visited Jordan. In June, Jordanian Folk Music Troupe attended the Arabic Arts Festival in China. In July, the Jordanian Dancing Troupe performed on the National Pavilion Day of Jordan at the Shanghai World Expo. In November, a Jordanian sports delegation attended the 16th Asian Games in China and set their best record.
