Kuwait, officially the State of Kuwait, is a sovereign Arab state situated in the north-east of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It lies on the north-western shore of the Persian Gulf and is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south (at Khafji) and Iraq to the north (at Basra). The name "Kuwait" is derived from the Arabic ākwāt, the plural of kūt, meaning "fortress built near water". Relations between the People's Republic of China and the State of Kuwait enjoyed sound and steady growth in 2010.


There were frequent exchanges at different levels and in different fields. In March, Li Jinjun, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, visited Kuwait. In June, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah led a delegation to China for the First Round of the China-Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC) Strategic Dialogue as the foreign minister of the GCC presiding country. In November, Minister of Oil and Minister of Information Ahmed Abdullah al-Ahmed Al-Sabah visited China and met with Vice Premier Li Keqiang. In the same month, Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, President of the Olympic Council of Asia and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, came to China for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou.


In the wake of the earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai Province and the mudslide in Zhouqu, Gansu Province, Amiri Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Crown Prince Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, President of the National Assembly Jassim Mohammed Al-Kharafi sent messages of condolences to President Hu Jintao and NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo respectively.


Bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, finance and infrastructure construction made positive progress. Two-way trade volume steadily recovered. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development continued to provide concessional loans to China.


Exchanges in culture, sports and health also witnessed notable results. In February, the China National Table Tennis Team went to Kuwait for a visit and participated in some matches. In October, the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe gave successful performances in Kuwait.
