Relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Turkey witnessed a strong momentum of growth in 2010.


The two sides had frequent high-level exchanges and enjoyed deeper political mutual trust. In October, Premier Wen Jiabao paid an official goodwill visit to Turkey. He met with President Abdullah Gul and held talks with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Premier Wen Jiabao put forward five proposals on growing China-Turkey relations. First, the two sides should strengthen political dialogue. Second, they should work more closely to combat terrorism, extremism and separatism. Third, they should step up business cooperation. Fourth, they should build closer cultural exchanges. Fifth, they should enhance coordination in international affairs. The two sides issued the Joint Statement on Building and Growing China-Turkey Strategic and Cooperative Relations and signed cooperation documents in economic, technological and cultural fields.


In April, Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, paid an official visit to Turkey. During the visit, he met with President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and held talks with Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad agreement on the bilateral relations and international and regional issues of shared interest. In June, State Councilor Dai Bingguo attended the Third Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia in Turkey and met with President Gul. They had an in-depth exchange of views on the bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common interest. Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi visited Turkey in January and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu visited China in October.


Economic cooperation and trade moved forward steadily. In January, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming visited Turkey. He met with Prime Minister Erdogan and held talks with Minister of State Zafer Caglayan and Minister of Transport Binali Yildirim on separate occasions. In May, Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun visited Turkey. He held talks with Minister of Transport Binali Yildirim and Director General and Chairman of the Board of Turkish State Railways Suleyman Karaman.


Cultural exchanges became more vibrant. In April, Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, inaugurated the Confucius Institute at Bogazici University. In September, the Turkish edition of China Today, a magazine co-sponsored by China International Publishing Group and Dijitex Group, was launched in Ankara. In October, the "Experience China in Turkey" series of cultural events were held in Turkey.


There were active interactions between parliaments, political parties and localities of the two countries. In October, a delegation led by Murat Mercan, Chairman of the Turkish Parliament's Commission of Foreign Affairs, visited China. Zhang Chunxian, Secretary of Hunan Provincial Party Committee, Wu Dengchang, Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province and Ouyang Song, Director of the Party History Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, visited Turkey.
