The partnership of friendly cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Uzbekistan kept the momentum of healthy and steady development in 2010.


The two countries had close high-level exchanges and deepened political mutual trust. From 9 to 11 June, President Hu Jintao paid a state visit to Uzbekistan and attended the 10th meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the capital city Tashkent. During the visit, he held talks with President Islam Karimov.


The two leaders had an in-depth exchange of views and reached important agreement on China-Uzbekistan relations, practical cooperation and international and regional issues of mutual interest. President Hu made six proposals on raising the bilateral relationship to a higher level, i.e., maintain high-level exchanges and enhance mutual trust; make use of economic complementarity and promote energy cooperation; collaborate in the non-resources and new and hi-tech sectors and establish a long-term trading partnership; deepen security cooperation and combat terrorism, separatism and extremism; advance people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cement the basis of friendship; and strengthen multilateral coordination and uphold shared interests of the two countries.


Following the talks, the two leaders signed and issued the Joint Statement on Comprehensive Expansion and Development of Partnership of Friendly Cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Uzbekistan. President Hu also met with Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Yilgizar Sabirov. From 23 to 26 August, Liu Yunshan, Member of the Political Bureau and Member of the Secretariat and Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, visited Uzbekistan. From 17 to 21 April, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu visited Uzbekistan and attended the meeting of secretaries of the Security Council of SCO member states.


From 20 to 22 May, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi visited Uzbekistan and attended the SCO Foreign Ministers' Meeting. From 15 to 21 December, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Ulugbek Vafaev visited China and attended the closing ceremony of the Asian Para-Games in Guangzhou. On 31 August, then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Elyor Ganiev came to China for the National Pavilion Day celebrations of Uzbekistan at the Shanghai World Expo.


Practical cooperation between the two countries continued to expand and two-way trade volume kept increasing. Cooperation in energy, transportation, telecommunications and infrastructure development was carried out smoothly. From 1 to 4 May, Minister of Finance Xie Xuren attended the 43rd annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank in Uzbekistan.


Cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges continued to expand. From 8 to 14 June, a big cultural delegation by the name of "The Silk Road-- Journey of Peace" headed by Zhang Deguang, President of the China-Central Asia Friendship Association, visited Uzbekistan. On 27 November, Minister of Culture and Sports Anvar Jabborov attended the closing ceremony of the Asian Games in Guangzhou. From 28 August to 7 September, Uzbek journalists visited China as members of a joint press delegation of Central Asian countries. From 29 October to 9 November, a TV crew from the Uzbek national television station came to China for a filming mission.
