The strategic partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia deepened in 2010 with fruitful cooperation across the board.
The two countries enjoyed closer high-level exchanges. During his official visit to Serbia in July, NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo met with President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetknovic, had talks with Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, Speaker of the National Assembly, and attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the Zemum-Borca bridge across the Danube in Belgrade undertaken by the Chinese side and the completion ceremony of China's new embassy premise in Serbia. The leaders of the two countries agreed to maintain high-level exchanges and actively engage in mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields to raise China-Serbia strategic partnership to a new high.
The representatives of the two sides signed cooperation agreements in a number of areas, including economy, trade, culture and health. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetknovic paid a working visit to China and attended National Pavilion Day activities of Serbia at the Shanghai World Expo in June, during which he met with NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao and talked with Vice Premier Hui Liangyu. In September, Mladjan Dinkic, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development came to China for the Expo.
The two foreign ministries enjoyed sound cooperation. Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic attended the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo in April and had talks with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao met with Minister of Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic in December and exchanged views on consular protection and other issues.
Business, cultural, energy, military and other exchanges were increasingly dynamic. Nebojsa Bradic, Minister of Culture, visited China in March when the Serbian Culture Week was held in Beijing and Tianjin . Petar Skundric, Minister of Mining and Energy, visited China in May. General Ma Xiaotian, Deputy Chief of the PLA General Staff, visited Serbia in June. Dragan Sutanovac, Minister of Defence, visited China in August. A delegation of Chinese writers visited Serbia in September. Zhang Huixin, Inspector from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, visited Serbia in October.
There were continuous exchanges between the people, political parties and localities of the two sides. Lu Hao, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial People's Congress, visited Serbia in April. A delegation from the Serbia-China Friendship Association visited China in May. Ma Zhipeng, senior consultant to the Beijing municipal government, visited Servia in November and attended commemorating activities marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the sister city relationship between Beijing and Belgrade. Tomislav Nikolic, President of the Serbian Progressive Party, visited China in November.
