Friendly and cooperative relations between the People's Republic of China and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana progressed smoothly in 2010.


The two countries maintained exchanges at all levels. In April, Weng Jieming, head of the Department of the United Front Work of the the CPC Municipal Committee of Chongqing , visited Guyana. In November, Cheng Siwei, former NPC Vice Chairman and President of the Association of Friendship between China and Latin America, visited Guyana. In July, President Bharrat Jagdeo traveled to China for the CARICOM Day event of the Shanghai World Expo. In June, Commodore Gary Best, Chief of Staff of the National Defence Force, visited China. In August, China's new Ambassador to Guyana Yu Wenzhe presented his Letter of Credence to President Jagdeo. In December, Guyana's new Ambassador to China David Dabydeen presented his Letter of Credence.


Trade and investment cooperation made fresh headway. Provision of fleet ferries by China to Guyana and power transmission project built with Chinese assistance were well underway. Banks and companies of the two countries reached initial agreement on cooperation on the Amaila hydro-power project.


Cooperation in technology and human resources made good progress. In 2010, 19 people from Guyana attended workshops or training programs in China and eight Guyanese students came to study in China on government scholarships. In August, the second group of young Chinese volunteers accomplished their mission in Guyana. In November, the ninth medical team sent by China arrived in Guyana.
